"Mangawhai Construction carried out a small project for us over Summer 2014 – constructing a double garage on a sloping site, attached to our bach. Ben and Pete were very conscientious, working carefully and to a high standard. They responded to changes and issues in a positive and flexible way – always having a useful suggestion on how to proceed. We always felt we could rely on them and trust them to do the best for us. Ben managed his sub-contractors very effectively – always trying to minimize waiting time. The project came in under budget and within the timescale, for which we were most grateful! We have no hesitation in engaging Mangawhai Construction for our future, much larger project, to renovate our bach. They are a pleasure to work with!"

"Ben and Sarah Lay of Mangawhai Construction are an extremely efficient and capable team. From the first phone call to the completion of the project they were a pleasure to work with. Renovations are not as straightforward as new builds but problems were always resolved and nothing was too much trouble. The building standard was very good and we were also happy with the work done by the subcontractors.
I have 100% confidence in Mangawhai Construction and happily recommend them for any building project."

"We had architect plans to do a fairly substantial renovation of our old bach. We went out to tender and, because the work required the blending of new with old with lots of unknowns, we were very keen to get a contract price broken down in detail. Ben and Sarah actually presented their tender price and details in person and in a professional written format. This approach gave us a lot of confidence in the standards Mangawhai Construction set for themselves.
The job started on time and, as the contract progressed, it was clear that we would need to increase the scope of work to ensure a final finish to the standard we were looking for. In this regard Ben was fantastic in making suggestions and working around the existing plans with the additional ‘as-built’ changes. The planning of work and liaising with ourselves and our architects as required ensured the work was finished to a high standard and even though the project took around seven months from start to finish, including spanning the summer holidays, it was relatively stress-free which is testament to the ownership that Ben and Pete took for their contractors’ responsibilities and the high standards they apply to their own work. We love the final outcome and more importantly love living in Mangawhai permanently, now in a really comfortable home."

"Mangawhai Construction undertook a contract to build 147 Wintle Street, Mangawhai in January 2009. While David Wingate from Wingate and Farquhar Ltd project-managed, I was kept informed with all building aspects with a weekly meeting with Ben Lay. During the construction I have found Ben and Pete to be flexible, approachable, cooperative, dedicated and displaying professionalism at all times. I am pleased with the final completion and enjoy living in the house. Being a coastal site, the house has many elements to contend with, and I haven’t had any issues with the building.
I am extremely happy with the workmanship and it has been a pleasure working with Mangawhai Construction."

"Our 60 year classic Kiwi bach at Mangawhai Heads needed help. Initially we felt it may have been be easier to knock it down and start again. But after an initial consultation with Ben Lay of Mangawhai Construction and his wife Sarah [from architects Wingate + Farquhar], we decided to keep the old building to retain as much of the original character as possible, and then to modernise internally where practical. Better still, when the concepts and cost estimates were presented to us we found that it was going to suit our budget very well!
The plans allowed for 2 extra bathrooms, a laundry, a new kitchen, extending the front living room, a new deck and tidying up the roofing and some of the piling. Remarkably, Ben and his team completed the job on time and on budget. It was important to us that the contractors working on the project understood the need to protect the essence of the bach. Ben has a gentle and effective management style which ensured all his subbies had the right attitude and skills, and were proud of their work.
The outcome is wonderful. We were genuinely surprised by how good the bach looked on completion. All workmanship was to a high standard and we just love the fact that we still have our classic Kiwi bach, safely and sensitively upgraded by a team of people who love what they do."

"In December 2009 my wife and I set out to employ the services of a builder to undertake a renovation project at our house in Mangawhai. Having numerous builders look at the project we were disappointed in response times and enthusiasm for the process, until we meet Mangawhai Construction. They were prompt and efficient from the very first meeting and having the ability to call upon the services of a market leading architects firm they gave us the confidence to contract them to proceed with the build. We feel so lucky we did, Ben and Peter are two of the nicest guys you ever hope to meet, and their obvious skills in relating plans to action were evident from the beginning. They were on the job from the start to finish never missing a day, their foresight during the build meant we were able to save considerable costs in materials, and how rare is that a builder that goes out of their way to save their client money! The build was completed on time and under budget, the quality of the build is without fault, the professionalism and sincerity of the Mangawhai Construction team is without question. We would have no hesitation in recommending Mangawhai Construction to anyone, we believe they truly are Mangawhai’s leading building firm, and with a vast portfolio of quality builds behind them will continue to be so for the foreseeable future."

"Mangawhai Construction designed and built my house in 2009. Because they were able to provide a one-stop shop where everything was taken care of from the initial design and budgeting, to consents and then the building and project management, it meant I could relax and enjoy the project. They were fully involved from day one and always went the extra mile. Their management skills, communication skills and quality of work were always of an exceptionally high standard. We had a very strict timeframe and budget and Mangawhai Construction achieved both of these. I would not hesitate in recommending Mangawhai Construction to anyone wanting a job well done."

"Mangawhai Construction were engaged in 2007 to build our home. We were very keen to get a builder that could work closely with the architect and be versatile enough to make changes as we went along, we did not want to get heavily penalised for making changes. The house designed by award-winning architect David Wingate, was a complex build with exposed macrocarpa trusses, polished concrete block internal feature walls and negative detail gib lining, all I must say out of the ordinary. We did have a few problems but all with suppliers and components made specifically for our house, and we were very impressed with the builder’s ability to brings these parties to heel. We shifted into our new home right on Christmas and were thrilled with the quality of the workmanship and management of the project. I am also involved with a commercial property investment trust and have engaged Mangawhai Construction half a dozen or so times now to alter, fit out, and repair some of these properties. Mangawhai Construction’s dedication to each task has been exemplary, often having to work after hours and on weekends to fit around tenants’ business hours. I am happy to recommend them for builders of your next project."
